In April 2016 flutist Wissam Boustany took part in his first conducting masterclass, which took place in Le Touquet, France, under the wonderful guidance of Maestro George Pehlivanian. This video marks the beginning of a new phase on Wissam's musical journey, documenting his first steps in rehearsal with the talented orchestra of Conservatoire de Lille, as well as their public performance of the slow movement of Dvorak’s Symphony No 9.

STUDYING CONDUCTING

Following Wissam's conducting debut in Australia (see Conducting Debut page), Wissam resolved to develop this aspect of his musical journey.

In April 2016 Wissam participated in the Touquet International Music Masters (TIMM) masterclass under the perceptive and powerful guidance of Maestro George Pehlivanian, which took place in Le Touquet, France, in collaboration with the Orchestre du Conservatoire de Lille. This proved to be a very enriching and revealing week in which 12 conductors participated. The repertoire for the week was Anton Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "New World Symphony" as well as Saint-Saëns's Cello Concerto with the sublime young soloist Ivan Karizna

This video captures some moments from the masterclass/rehearsal, as well as the performance at the end of the week:
